Look what’s in store for 2009!
Goodwill Theatre’s new Shakespeare Alive! Pilot Program begins this February with eight student matinees of
Hamlet. Working with Rosemary Hay, formerly of the Royal Shakespeare Company, Broome-Tioga BOCES and
local educators, we have created a comprehensive Study Guide as well as a full production & post-show
discussion. Eleven local high schools (from Ithaca to Owego to Windsor) have already made reservations for
the student matinees. We are close to SOLD OUT! This Pilot Program conforms to NYS Teaching Standards
in English, Language Arts, Social Studies & Performing/Visual Arts. You can enjoy this literary classic “in the
flesh” at one of our four weekend public performances.
Story Time Theatre Series, now in it’s second year, has become a “family favorite”. This series, aimed at
grades K-6, opens eyes, ears and hearts to the magic of theater and books. 2008/09 shows include Madeline
& the Bad Hat, The Gruffalo, Fish Face and Three Little Pigs. By sharing in the fun, parents & grandparents
create lasting memories around story books that they can relive by reading together. These affordable and
exceptionally well performed shows are offered on a weekend in the morning and the early afternoon to
accommodate busy family schedules.
(Both of the above programs were requested by local educators. They encourage literacy, theater manners and
provide a shared cultural experience.)
Due to these turbulent times, Goodwill Theatre will focus rehabilitation efforts on projects already underway and
already funded, while we refine the Seven-Year Business Plan.
