Construction

Construction continues at GWT!  Further rehabilitation of the Goodwill Theatre anchor building and the former Municipal Building Central Fire Station started recently.  The work is funded by the NY State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation through the Susquehanna Heritage Area program and RESTORE NY funds, which Senator Tom Libous and Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo helped Goodwill Theatre secure, as well as funds from the Village of Johnson City and the Town of Union’s Community Development Block Grant and HUD funding from Congressman Maurice Hinchey.

As a result, the Municipal Building (46 Willow Street), home of the Schorr Family Firehouse Stage, received a beautiful and functional new roof!   We have had trouble with the roof for years, so this is great news!  We have also received funding for abatement on the second and third floors and in the basement of the Municipal Building.

At the Goodwill Theatre building (36 Willow Street), the old rigging system and fire curtain were recently removed. Currently, work is ongoing for its stabilization and for the abatement, guano removal and general cleanup as well.  Progress is being made!  We hope to be able to offer tours of the Goodwill Theatre in the near future!

So, please...pardon our appearance as we make these upgrades.  We'll have much sounder facilities once these projects are completed.
